Role Description

At Zendesk Sell (former Base) we own the infrastructure. Our technical strategy is to deliver self-service infrastructure that’s why we focus on toil removal (alerts, maintenance, mundane repeatable work) and shift towards Infrastructure as a Code implementation through Terraform. We work in a full SCRUM. Our longer term goal is to build a new production region, so somehow double what we manage and automate today.

Do you try to stretch technology to the limits? Are you passionate about pushing system performance and reliability to new heights? We’re looking for engineers who can identify trends, discover bottlenecks and improve the overall infrastructure.

Our scale

  • 150+ Microservices in Ruby, Java, Mono
  • 20+ AWS Services in use including managed services, small GCP footprint
  • 1500+ EC2 machines on Linux
  • 2 PaaS’es: Nomad and K8S (EKS) plus small usage of ECS
  • 250+ datastores including Aurora/RDS, ElasticSearch, Elasticache, Redis
  • 40+ deployments to production a day
  • 4 environments (production, integration platform, staging, sandbox)
  • Provisioning through Ansible and Terraform (IAC)

Required skills and experience

  • Advanced knowledge of nix environment (system administrator level)
  • Strong skills in troubleshooting and debugging systems and networks
  • Shell scripting is a must and advanced programming skills will be a plus

Bear in mind that experience with a particular toolset is not essential. We value your ability to understand how different technologies work under the hood and what you can accomplish with them much more.
